France Recalls Contaminated Olympic-Branded Water Bottles | Olympics 2024 news

The government website Rappel Conso (Consumer Recall) stated on Friday that the reusable bottles produced by the Vilac company contain “levels of Bisphenol A that do not comply with regulations” for products intended for food contact. 

Just one week preceding the inauguration of the Paris Games, French authorities have recalled children’s water bottles with Olympic branding due to the detection of perilous levels of the endocrine disruptor BPA ( Bisphenol A )

The water bottles with white coloured and beige, blue or red tops having the Olympic rings logo, the Paris 2024 mascot or the Olympic flame were sold in France from late August last year to the beginning of this year July.  

According to the authorities, people who have brought those water bottles should have returned them to the shop or place of purchase. They didn’t mention anything about refund or compensation.

Bisphenol A, once commonly utilized in the production of food containers, has been banned in France since 2015. Identified as an endocrine disruptor by France’s food safety agency, Anses, it is believed to be associated with health issues such as breast cancer and infertility.
